Uncompassionate NIMBY homeowners

For those who call this Not in my back yard…

1.        Millbrae was recognized as the fastest growing City in the Peninsula for 2023 and was the #2 out of 20+ cities had its Housing Element approved by the State.  A housing element includes all current and future building of homes, including affordable homes.

2.        Millbrae offered to the county alternative locations which would not have as severe of a financial as the La Quinta.  The county also had 26 other locations to choose from, but hell bent on La Quinta, paying $3M above appraised value ($30M), plus another $16M for renovation. Tremendous overpayment and abusing public funds.

3.        If you’ve read the San Mateo County Grand Jury report involving SMC’s homeless spending, it becomes evident the County did not do their homework with this project from a cost perspective and public safety matter involving 911 calls. Building from scratch would only cost $623k per room, while this conversion costs $650k/room.

4.        911 emergency calls for Permanent Supportive Housing skyrocket!

a.        Casa Esperanza (RWC)  went from 2 calls to 285 calls

b.        Shores Landing (RWC) went from 8 calls to 440 calls

c.        Coast House (HMB) went from 89 calls to 302 calls

5.        This is about the burden placed to our Public Safety, let alone that La Quinta is located in 5 minutes’ walk to Lomita Elementary, Capuchino High, and numerous Day Care, Senior Care and after school program.

6.        This is not an issue of Millbrae not doing its part.  It is an issue of an abusive County Board of Supervisors, County Executive, and two junior Council Members who are putting the interests of outside housing activists over the wellbeing of their constituents.
